The extradition from Israel of Yitzchak Shuchat, a Chabad hasid accused of beating Andrew Charles, a black honors student, in Crown Heights three years ago, has reportedly been delayed. Israel's Supreme Court has apparently agreed to hear Shuchat's appeal of a lower court ruling to extradite him.
VIN, which is reporting this story, is also reporting the false claim that Andrew Charles said the attack was not racially motivated – a lie spread by Shuchat's supporters in an effort to raise money for Shuchat's legal fees and to block the extradition.
Shuchat's supporters posted a 29 second video clip from News 12 as proof that Charles said the attack was not racially motivated. In that clip, shortly after the attack Charles actually said the following:
"I hope that everyone who has been speaking about the problems in Crown Heights will stop making reference to racial tension."
In spite of their claims, this in no way means the attack was not racially motivated.
