Rabbi Leib Glanz, the politically connected former jail chaplain who illegally arranged a lavish jailhouse bar mitzvah for the son of a wealthy haredi inmate in 2008 and who resigned in the event's fallout, has now been fined $2500 for taking a silver kiddush cup and plate from Sterns family.

The rabbi's cup runneth over – with troubles.
In 2009, Rabbi Leib Glanz was forced to resign his chaplaincy after the lavish jailhouse bar mitzvah in the Tombs he arranged late the year before for the son of haredi fraudster Tuvia Stern was splashed all over the tabloids.
Almost three years later, New York City’s Conflicts of Interest Board slapped Glanz with a heafty fine for an incident realted to that jailhouse bash.
Glantz' says he tried to turn the gift down, but fraudster Tuvia Stern's family and the family's guests insisted Glantz take it. So to avoid embarrassing the wealthy family, Glanz says he took the silver cup and plate, valued at about $500.
This violated city regulations which forbid city employees like Glanz was from taking gifts
New York City’s Conflicts of Interest Board slapped Glaz with a $2500 fine Monday, long after Glanz was forced to resign in the bar mitzvah's fallout.
The fine isn't the worst thing to happen to Glanz since then, though.
He and his brother Menashe Glanz were charged earlier this year in federal court with theft and conspiracy for allegedly defrauding a federal housing program. If convicted, Rabbi Glanz could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
