The Zionist Organization of America, a hard right organization that has far more in common with Rabbi Meir Kahane than it does with Theodore Herzl or David Ben Gurion, is honoring disgraced discredited talk show host Glenn Beck. Beck was fired from Fox News after organizations as varied as the Anti Defamation League (ADL) and Media Matters, along with hundreds of rabbis and tens of thousands of Fox viewers, complained about Beck's lies, his insane rants, and his false claim that as a 14 year old boy, left wing financier George Soros was a Nazi collaborator.

Before some of the crazier people here say Soros was a collaborator, here's what really happened:
…Shortly after George went to live with Baumbach, the man was assigned to take inventory on the vast estate of Mor Kornfeld, an extremely wealthy aristocrat of Jewish origin. The Kornfeld family had the wealth, wisdom, and connections to be able to leave some of its belongings behind in exchange for permission to make their way to Lisbon. Baumbach was ordered to go to the Kornfeld estate and inventory the artworks, furnishings, and other property. Rather than leave his "godson" behind in Budapest for three days, he took the boy with him. As Baumbach itemized the material, George walked around the grounds and spent time with Kornfeld's staff. It was his first visit to such a mansion, and the first time he rode a horse. He collaborated with no one and he paid attention to what he understood to be his primary responsibility: making sure that no one doubted that he was Sandor Kiss. Among his practical concerns was to make sure that no one saw him pee.…
Yet Beck insisted Soros was a Nazi collaborator, claiming Soros worked with his non-Jewish protector to take property left behind by Hungarian Jews deported to Auschwitz.
And then Beck refused to retract or apologize.
The ADL found Beck's behavior to be reprehensible, as did most Holocaust scholars.
But not the ZOA's Morton Klein and the hardliners that make up his board.
For them, smearing a man who supports Peace Now is a mitzvah. Need to lie to discredit George Soros? Then lie! Need to obscenely use the Holocaust to discredit him? Do it!
Because Morton Klein and his followers are fundamentalist ideologues, and their ends always justify the means they use to try to achieve them.
Jews should be aghast, and they should demand the ZOA rescind Beck's pending honor. Some will do this.
But the Centrist Orthodox and haredi supporters of the ZOA will with near unanimity applaud the ZOA for honoring Beck, because Beck is a supporter of right wing Israeli politicians, West Bank settlers, and right wing Israelis, and he defends their version of the State of Israel as he smears the left wing and centrist Israelis who view Israel as a secular democratic state based on humane and humanist values.
And that's because for them, for Morton Klein, the ends justify the means – no matter how despicable those means might be.
