Leaders of the United Food and Commercial Union's Brooklyn local were indicted last month for racketeering, extortion, money laundering and witness tampering. “[The indicted leaders’] alleged actions were damaging to the union and the workers they were sworn to represent, and now they will be held accountable.”
This is a local of the union that tried to unionize Agriprocessors workers in Postville, Iowa.
The Brooklyn local under fire here tried to unionize Agriprocessors Brooklyn workers, but Aaron Rubashkin refused to recognize those workers' vote to unionize, claiming that the workers were not actual workers because they were all…undocumented.
The National Labor Relations board and the courts rejected Agriprocessor's claim and ordered Agriprocessors to recognize the vote.
