Alleged Ponzi schemer Eliyahu Weinstein should have his bail revoked, Assistant U.S. Attorney Gurbir Grewal wrote in a court document filed yesterday, the APP reported.
Weinstein, a Lakewood, New Jersey real estate developer, is accused of cheating his victims out of more than $200 million.
He has been free on $10 million bail since August of last year.
Conditions of that bail include having no contact with his alleged victims or potential witnesses, and not committing any crimes.
But Grewal’s court filing alleges that Weinstein lied to the court about meetings with his attorney and that he also tried to swindle at least two people in financial deals.
A hearing on possible revocation of Weinstein’s bail is scheduled for 9:30 am Friday in Newark’s federal courthouse.
Update 3:03 pm CDT 9-23-11 – Weinstein's bail revocation hearing has been rescheduled for October 6th to allow for witness testimony.
