Police now believe the boy was killed after Aron returned home from work on the day after Leiby disappeared. They say it's possible that while Aron was at work that day, the boy was in his apartment all day of his own free will.
Police: Kidnapped boy may have stayed in alleged killer's apartment
(AP) Authorities in New York are offering additional details from the final hours in the life of an 8-year-old boy who was abducted and killed.
The medical examiner says Leiby Kletzky had been given painkillers and muscle relaxants before he was smothered.
Police say he became lost on his walk home from day camp last week, and asked a man for help. They later found the boy's severed feet, wrapped in plastic, in the man's freezer. Levi Aron is charged with murder and kidnapping.
Police now believe the boy was killed after Aron returned home from work on the day after Leiby disappeared. They say it's possible that while Aron was at work that day, the boy was in his apartment all day of his own free will.
Police have said Aron told them that on the day the boy disappeared, he took him to a wedding and spent several hours there. They say they now have reason to believe that's true but that the boy didn't necessarily go inside.
The next day, colleagues say, Aron showed up at work but seemed troubled. Police believe when he went home, he killed Leiby after finding out there was a massive search under way.
