The letter from the Jewish Board of Advocates for Children lists at least 10 ways public school students are better protected by New York State law than private school and religious school students are. But while the letter notes this clearly, and while the letter says private and religious students deserve the same protections as public school students have, it does not ask legislators to do anything specific about it, and concludes with a bizarre, self-serving remark about the JBAC's success.
A letter from the Jewish Board of Advocates for Children sent to New York State legislators lists at least 10 ways public school students are better protected by New York State law than private school and religious school students are.
But while the letter notes this clearly, and while the letter says private and religious students deserve the same protections as public school students have, it does not ask legislators to do anything specific about it, and instead concludes with a bizarre, self-serving remark about the JBAC's success.
And on top of this, the letterhead no longer lists Rabbi Yosef Blau, Marc Appel or Asher Lipner, Ph.D.– all of whom were critical of JBAC's president, Elliot Pasik's bizarre behavor in the OHEL-Jewish Week affair.
Apparently all were pushed out of the JBAC after criticizing Pasik.
It also appears that others have resigned from the JBAC or been pushed out, all during this same time period.
Also, the JBAC used to have three board members – Asher Lipner was the third. He's now out of the JBAC and even though Pasik told some JBAC members that new third board member had been appointed, that member does not appear as such on this letterhead – perhaps because what Pasik did might not conform to the bylaws of his organization or to the state laws that govern it.
At any rate, here are excerpts from the letter – including the 10 ways public school students are safer than religious and private school students, which Pasik is correct in pointing out – the board list from the letter, and then the entire letter as a PDF file. Make of it what you will:
The letter's weak close that asks for nothing but praises JBAC:
