HV cops seek grand rabbi after alleged arson attack
(05/25/11) NEW SQUARE - Police in Rockland say that they are looking to speak with the grand rabbi of a New Square synagogue after a congregant allegedly attacked another local man in an attempt to burn down his house, leaving the each of them severely burned. Shaul Spitzer, 18, has been charged with attempted murder, arson and assault after he was allegedly caught trying to set Aron Rottenberg's house on fire.Spitzer and Rottenberg both remain in the hospital with severe burns since the incident early Sunday morning. Police are now looking to speak with Grand Rabbi David Twersky, who oversees the New Square synagogue which Spitzer attended. Spitzer is said to have allegedly attacked Rottenberg because Rottenberg prayed at a different synagogue in the tightly knit Hasidic community.
