Agri became a big fish in a small pond, and he became the face of Agri. They rushed to the conclusion he was responsible, this stranger in a strange land ... this white whale, Moby Jew ... they went after him to be harpooned.
According to Jeff Reinitz of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, the above was said a few moments ago during the closing argument given by Rubashkin attorney F. Montgomery Brown.
The Des Moines Register's Jens Krogstad has the quote this way:
“The stranger in strange land. He became the white whale. You can feel from the absence of evidence and the evidence itself that they rushed to the conclusion that he was responsible, this white whale. Moby Jew.”
He said others ran the plant while he was left “to be harpooned.”
