Elizabeth Billmeyer could get 20 years plus $500,000 fine.
Agriprocessors HR worker pleads guilty
GRANT SCHULTE • Des Moines Register
A former human resources manager at Agriprocessors Inc. pleaded guilty today to a charge that she helped harbor illegal immigrant workers at the kosher meat plant.
Elizabeth Billmeyer, 48, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to harbor undocumented aliens for profit and one count of knowingly accepting false resident alien cards.
Prosecutors alleged in court papers last month that Billmeyer, of Postville, helped the illegal workers get jobs at the plant even though she knew they had come to the United States illegally.
Billmeyer remains free on bond until her sentencing, which has not yet been set. She faces a maximum 20-year prison sentence, a $500,000 fine, six years of probation and other assorted court fees.
Agriprocessors was the site of a major immigration raid in May that led to the arrest of 389 plant workers. The plant has struggled since, and sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year against hundreds of businesses and creditors.
