Former Agriprocessors CEO appeal bail hearing reset
The Gazette
CEDAR RAPIDS — An appeal hearing regarding the detention of Agriprocessors former CEO Sholom Rubashkin was reset to 8:30 a.m. Monday.
U.S. Magistrate Jon Scoles denied bail in December for Rubashkin, who faces 99 charges stemming from the May immigration raid at the Postville kosher meatpacking plant. Scoles said Rubashkin was a flight risk.
The appeal will be made to U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade, who is presiding over the case. Rubashkin has been in the Dubuque County Jail since November.
The charges include bank fraud, identity theft, harboring and aiding and abetting illegal workers, document fraud, money laundering and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Agriprocessors and three employees of the plant also are charged in the fourth superseding indictment.
Sholom M. Rubashkin was charged with 87 more federal charges Friday, January 16. I'd imagine the hearing is rescheduled in order to hold tomorrow's arraignment before the bail appeal hearing.
