Rabbis will make show of support for Rubashkin
A group of high-profile rabbis on Monday will visit Sholom Rubashkin, the former CEO of Agriprocessors being held at the Dubuque County Jail, and then address the issues surrounding his detainment.
The rabbis will be accompanied by Rubashkin's attorney, Guy Cook, of Des Moines law firm Grefe & Sidney.
Rubashkin is being held on federal charges of harboring illegal immigrants, document fraud, identity theft and bank fraud. Rubashkin was denied bail Dec. 22.
Federal authorities argue that Rubashkin poses a flight risk, in part because of the Law of Return -- Israeli legislation enacted in 1950 that gives Jews and those of Jewish ancestry, as well as their spouses, the right to migrate to and settle in Israel and gain citizenship. Rubashkin's supporters say the argument is unjust.…
