LEWIN: "The Real Agriprocessors Scandal Is Not What Was Done By Agriprocessors, It Is What Was Done To Agriprocessors."
Nathan Lewin spoke at YU in Israel today.
Posted below is a brief audio excerpt (4 minutes, 27 seconds long) from the question and answer session following that speech.
Note that Lewin misrepresents the circumstances of Rubashkin's second arrest and bail denial.
He also acts as if Rubashkin did employ children workers or violate OSHA law, and as if workers were not forced to work 15 to 17 hour shifts without normal breaks – and without being paid overtime.
Here again is Lewin's money quote:
"The real Agriprocessors' scandal is not what was done by Agriprocessors, it is what was done to Agriprocessors."
Lewin also speaks about the 'kosher meat shortage' without mentioning the millions of dollars worth of meat held in Agriprocessors freezers.
Note also that Lewin says kosher meat distributors gave him affidavits claiming said 'kosher meat shortage' that he personally filed in court in Cedar Rapids.
I told you from day one of Agriprocessors' shut down that Lewin was behind the 'kosher meat shortage' and the attempt to use that 'shortage' to claim Jews were being illegally denied access to kosher meat.
This audio is proof of that.
(The audio is poor for the question asked Lewin – but Lewin's answer is loud and clear.)
Also note Lewin's comment on extradition from Israel. He says Israel can demand the criminal serve his time in Israeli prisons. In Rubashkin's case, this would be a yeshiva prison with regular conjugal visits and monthly furloughs. The same, of course, would be true for Avrohom Mondrowitz.
Here is the judge's actual detention order for Rabbi Sholom M. Rubashkin. Read it. You'll see Lewin misrepresents the facts of the case.
