CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A former human resources employee at a northeast Iowa kosher slaughterhouse is expected to plead guilty this week to federal charges.
Karina Pilar Freund is charged with conspiracy to harbor undocumented immigrants and harboring, aiding and abetting the harboring of undocumented immigrants for profit.
She pleaded not guilty last month after a federal grand jury returned a 12-count indictment against Agriprocessors and its managers. The indictment alleged they were intricately involved in efforts to employ illegal immigrants at the Postville plant.
Immigration agents raided the plant in May and arrested 389 workers
Freund is scheduled to appear Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids for a change of plea hearing.
Attorneys in the case wouldn't comment until after the hearing.
