Front page of Yediyot Aharonot reports that Ethiopian couples are being told days before their wedding (after the hall is paid for, the guests arriving) that there is a question of their Jewishness, but that the matter can be corrected without embarrassment to the families in front of all the guests for a mere NIS 5,000 ($1,500). The Rabbis then perform a "mock" wedding ceremony before the guests, who do not know anything is amiss, and the couple then attend an expedited (third) conversion class at the Rabbanut after the false ceremony and then are wed properly in private --the family unawares. They have rabbis counting the cash in hand on hidden photos on the front page of the newspaper
