Elior Chen, the rabbi whose followers beat, shook, burned and hammered tiny children, leaving one in a vegetative state and another in serious condition, has fled to Canada.
And he did so legally – Israel did not bother to bar him from leaving.
But, hey, that's all right. No harm done.
Why?
Because the rabbi was doing exorcisms to rid the children of "evil spirits."
Following the Agudah-Ger–Schechter example, it's all protected and part of Rabbi Chen's religious freedom. Why, it may be that Dovid Zwiebel will write a postition paper on haredi Jewry's right to hammer and burn the devil out of haredi kids.
Maybe Schechter & Co. will send Isaac Hersh up to Canada for a Chen-induced makeover. I'll bet Steve Zakheim will even pay for the airfare.
UPDATE: As you can see from his picture, sent by maven, Chen appears to be a Beslover hasid.
