"The moment you ask a child in Israel what Yom Kippur means to him, and he answers the Yom Kippur War… then I don't know if that is Zionism or whatever you call it, but it has certainly become bankrupt,"
The answer and more in the extended post below…
Chabad oligarch Lev Leviev, who apparently misses the very important fact that those Israeli children for the most part have uncles, grandparents or family friends who fought and in far too many cases died in a war that almost meant the destruction of Israel. Leviev, who has a home in Bnei Brak, lives with people who for the most part did not serve in the IDF and who did not fight in the Yom Kippur war.
Why?
Because they are non-Zionist or anti-Zionist haredim of various stripes.
You see, it is the Zionists who fought and died to protect all of Israel, including ungrateful haredim like Leviev.
Leviev also said this pearl of wisdom in an interview with Ha'aretz Magazine due out Friday:
"Just as Putin was a wonderful president for the Jews, I think that Medvedev will be one, too," said Leviev. "I wish the Jews themselves would appreciate the Jews the way Putin knows how to appreciate them."
This from a man who has made hundreds of millions of dollars doing business with Putin while Putin crushed democracy and curtailed freedom.
But there's more from Leviev, who said this about criminal investigations into the business dealings and campaign funding of Israeli prime ministers:
"We've forgotten that in order to have a prime minister in the country, we have to let him lead the country," he said. "When he finishes his term, investigate and try him, he's not running away anywhere."
Leviev wants to be Prime Minister of Israel. No wonder he wants those investigations stopped.
