Isaac Hersh, the 16 year old boy kidnapped on orders from his father and sent to a reform school boot camp in Jamaica has been taken from Tranquility Bay and returned to the US.
How?
Details follow after the jump in the extended post:
…We can now report that Isaac just landed this morning at 7:00 AM in N.Y. after a group of 'choshvia askonim' got involved to rescue him, and flew down to Jamaica to work out all details to get him out and bring him back to be with his family.
The askonim involved in this big mitzvah are, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe (executive director of the Torah Outreach Research Center of Houston), Rabbi Avraham Wolbe (Monsey, NY), Dr. David Pelcovitz (Yeshiva University) and Mr. Zvi Gluck (Hatzalah of NY).
And a special recognition to R' Yosef Shereshevsky from Norfol Virgina, COO of Wextrust Capital, for financing this operation and providing the private Jet.
To be with his family?
I hope VIN made an error. The boy's father is said to be a violent man who physically abused Isaac. Isaac had been living in a foster home in Houston, Texas before his father and mother ordered his abduction and incarceration in Tranquility Bay.
If Isaac is back with his father and mother, there is no victory here. There is simply more abuse.
UPDATE 9:40 am 3-28-08 – VIN tells me the phrase "bring him back to be with his family" is a typo. It should have read "…foster family."
Will that be the case longterm, if at all? We'll see.
