The Forward has a good rundown of the recent confrontation between Agriprocessors and the UFCW union. I haven't seen the union's newspaper ads of flyers yet, and I did not receive an automated telephone call, so I'm relying on what others have reported. Still, it seems to me the union overreached, and their ads and calls were tone deaf. Why did this happen? I don't know. I suspect the union relied on Jews who are not familiar with Orthodox communities to set the tone of the ads.
All in all, the union did not lie. Rubashkin did not either, although his responses regarding recalls and mad cow disease are very disingenuous.
I've been sitting on a Rubashkin story for a few weeks now. Perhaps I'll post it Sunday or Monday.
