Why not? According to the 'prophet' who promised Gaza settlers there would be no Disengagement, and ordered them to stay put, women cannot study Talmud because it blurs the distinct roles played by the sexes and weakens faith.
Perhaps what Rabbi Eliyahu means by this is that, when Talmud study is demystified, men can no longer hold a position of superiority over women based on the religious imperative to study Talmud. At any rate, Rabbi Eliyahu is not alone. Another Religious-Zionist rabbi, Shlomo Aviner recently ruled that women were forbidden to study Talmud because such study was "unfitting for their souls."
