So Y-Love, the "hasidic hip hop artist" from Brooklyn, was in town for a show tonight. I met him briefly on Friday with his two DJs as they were coming in for a sound check (hope you guys enjoyed the challah). I caught a few minutes of the show tonight. I'm not a hip hop fan (although I do like Miri Ben Ari's work, especially Sunshine To The Rain, with Scarface and Anthony Hamilton) so I can't do a fair review of the show. I like the Y-Love recorded tracks I've heard, and he raps in Aramaic, Hebrew and English, which is really wild. But turnout was weak tonight and, early on, at least, the crowd seemed stiff. Perhaps Y-Love's sound is a bit too urban for a suburban Saint Paul, Minnesota, audience.
