There's a new Jblog out there. Breaking Away For Dummies is written by an ex-haredi who broke away and is now living a non-haredi life. The author describes himself this way:
I was born and raised in a Hasidic community in New York. My world until recently was Boro Park, Boro Park, and Boro Park. . I didn’t have any idea what the real world outside of the narrow ghetto is about. To me the world was created only for Chasidic Jews. Non-Jews or secular Jews are here only to serve us. I had chosen to change my lifestyle with help from Footsteps, as their web site explains, Footsteps is an organization dedicated to providing educational, vocational and social support services to those seeking the world beyond the insular ultra-religious communities in which they were raised. My English is not the best Yiddish is my native language. My posts will probably be with some spelling, grammar, and word order errors. I hope you will have patients with me.
As always, Footsteps can use your help. They need donations of time, expertise and money. Please help in any way you can.
