That's right. Israel's GLBT community is petitioning the police to allow a Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem June 21, the day Gay Pride Parades are held worldwide. The proposed route is from Independence Park in the city center to Liberty Bell Park close to the German Colony. According to Ha'aretz, the GLBT community's petition to the police:
[S]tressed that the parade is essential to what they called "the preservation of the rule of law in Israel in general, and in Jerusalem in particular."
You might remember that haredim rioted for days to block last year's parade, and they were joined by National Religious and even Modern Orthodox protesters and rioters, all instigated by rabbis from all camps who spewed some of the most hateful rhetoric imaginable.
The GLBT community is correct. This parade is no longer about Gay rights – it is about "the preservation of the rule of law in Israel in general, and in Jerusalem in particular." The parade should go on, and everyone in Israel concerned with the Talibanization of Israel should come to Jerusalem to march with it.
