A new book by a member of the terror plot to assassinate Germany's leader Conrad Adenauer in 1952 alleges Herut (and later Likud) leader Menachem Begin supported and offered to finance the plot, which killed a German sapper and almost Adenauer. Why? Begin was upset with the idea of reparations for Holocaust survivors, that money could somehow atone for blood spilled. If this report is proved true, any remaining question about Begin's status – terrorist or freedom fighter? – will be decided once and for all.
