Gil Student of Hirhurim has taken to banning commenters without warning.
Why? Well. some, like me, have been "disrespectful" to gedolim and/or hazal. Some, also like me, challenge his positions in ways he cannot answer.
I earned this ban primarily by quoting the Jerusalem Talmud, Shabbat 1:4 exactly and in context. Gil thought the Talmud's statement – that Beit Shammai had used unethical means to win control of the Rabbinic Jewish world – was disrespectful to Beit Shammai, so he deleted it.
Now, follow the logic. Gil deleted a comment from me that did nothing other than quote the Talmud Yerushalmi! He did so because the Yerushalmi was "not nice" to Beit Shammai.
What could Beit Shammai have done to provoke the Yerushalmi's wrath? Well, according to the Yerushalmi, Beit Shammai was then the minority party. They did not like that. So Beit Shammai murdered members of Beit Hillel and held rest of Beit Hillel hostage until the remaining members of Beit Hillel agreed to vote Beit Shammai's way. That's what the Yerushalmi says. That is what Gil Student censored.
Today, I thought a drasha by Rabbi Moshe Shternbuch quoted by Gil was very funny. Why? Well, you see, according to HaRav HaGaon HaGadol Shternbuch, Zimri was a Jewish "outreach worker" trying to "mekarev" Kozbi with sex, and today's "outreach workers" also corrupt Torah to "mekarev" Jews by teaching unclean, foreign thoughts – thoughts like the world being older than 5765 years and that hazal could err when dealing with science.
LOL! What can one say to such lomdut?!?
HaGaon HaRav HaGadol Shternbuch surely must have a wicked sense of humor!
Otherwise, we might be forced to say that the man is a tremendous fool.
As for Gil Student, he's a disingenuous person. Every time he had deleted or censored my comments, except for this last time, it has been because he could not answer the challenge to his worldview contained in them. He behaves like a bully, using his powers of censorship to tip the argument's scales in his favor.
Truly a sick man.
