Russia has officially "ended" its attempt to ban the Kitzur Shulkhan Arukh for "incitement" against non-Jews.
The Jerusalem Post's coverage makes it appear that Chabad's "chief rabbi of Russia" Berl Lazar is behind the lifting of the probe.
Ha'aretz tells a fuller, more complete story. It seems Israel and international Jewish organizations got involved and the Israelis put serious pressure on Putin. Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met with the Russian Prime Minister in Moscow and demanded the probe be dropped.
Lazar (in the Jerusalem post) insists that top leaders of the Russian government were not behind the probe.
Yet Ha'aretz points out that the Russian government appears to have negotiated a "price" (i.e., blackmail) with the Israeli government in order to drop the probe.
So Putin and his fascist cronies make money off the "ban" and Chabad's "chief rabbi" covers for them. Sick.
Update: Lazar claims credit for stopping the probe here. No mention is made of Israel's role.
