Empire has recalled two products due to possible Lysteria contamination.
Both products are produced in a non-Empire facility owned and run by Alle Processing, the same OU-supervised company responsible for much of the shakle-and-hoist, shakle-and-cast South American kosher slaughter, considered by experts to be the worst type kosher slaughter for animal handling and welfare. The USDA has closed that plant. Meat from Alle's South American production is imported to the US and sold as Meal Mart, Schreibers, Alle and other OU-supervised brands. It may also be used in non-OU-supervised brands carrying other kosher supervisions.
Non-kosher output from those plants may also be imported to the US. If so, it would end up in restaurants and grocery stores nation-wide.
The products being recalled:
48 oz. packages of EMPIRE KOSHER, Fully Cooked, BUFFALO STYLE WINGS, CHICKEN WINGS COATED IN SAUCE.
• 28 oz. boxes of EMPIRE KOSHER, FULLY COOKED, BREADED, FRIED CHICKEN, 6 TO 9 ASSORTED PIECES.
