In an attempt to cut down on the number of fraudulent academic degrees used to scam Israel's socialized pay-scale system, the education ministry has decided to refuse recognition of any undergraduate degree issued by universities overseas universities that accept one year of yeshiva studies in Israel as university-level credits. In effect, this leaves all YU, Turo and many state college graduates without a valid BA. Worse yet, Masters and PhD-level degrees earned after graduating those universities are also not recognized, leading to the absurd situation of holders of valid PhD's being paid the same wage as high school graduates.
