Filmmaker Michael Moore has announced the production of a new film that will for the first time honestly look at the American Revolution without biases or preconceived notions.
“The question,” said Mr. Moore over a double portion of ribs at Mr. Moore’s favorite soul food restaurant in Beverly Hills, “is what would the world be like today if the British had won?” Wiping a dribble of sauce from his chin, Mr. Moore answered his own question. “We,” he said, gesturing expansively around the room with a half-gnawed rib bone grasped in his fleshy hand, “would all be Canadians. And that,” Mr. Moore said, smacking his lips, “would be a good thing.”
Mr. Moore said that he hopes to have the film completed in time for the run-up to the 2006 off-year elections, which also mark the official start of the 2008 presidential campaign.
“We can’t go back and undo the Revolution,” Mr. Moore said. “But we can temper it and shape it to fit in with the world around us.”
The new film, tentatively titled “Benedict 9-11” is being co-produced by actor Alec Baldwin, several of the Dixie Chicks and CBS News.
Neither Kim Bassinger or Dan Rather could be reached for comment.
