At least two suspects are reportedly in police custody after a wave of break-ins in the haredi West Bank town of Betar Illit, located six miles south of Jerusalem.
According to a report in Yeshiva World, haredim thought the thieves were Arabs from an adjacent Arab village, and they protested what they saw as lax law enforcement and city inaction, demanding that the city and police do more to protect haredim from this wave of presumably Arab-committed burglaries.
But police working with civilian security patrols and using undercover agents found the alleged burglars – two haredi residents of the city. Police reportedly recovered some of the stolen goods from the suspects’ homes during the arrests.
haredi won't burglarize on Shabbat , not bc it's Shabbat , bu bc ppl are home on Shabbat , unless they spent Shabbat out
of their home , to a relative .....
they ' ll know if ppl are home or not .
they'll knock at the door harmlessly , in total innocence to wish Shabbat shalom .
if no one answers the door , then , it's easy .
their neighborhoods are not safe , even if they are among themselves only .
