Lassana Bathily, the 24-year-old Muslim employee of the Hyper Cacher kosher market in Paris who saved the lives of many hostages during last week’s terror attack, will now become a French citizen, the Daily News reported.
Bathily, who was born and raised in Mali, has lived in France since 2006. He applied for citizenship in July.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve praised Bathily’s bravery and quick-wittedness today and announced that Bathily will be awarded French citizenship in a ceremony to held Tuesday.
Bathily pushed many hostages down the store’s cellar stairs and hid them in a freezer. Bathily turned the lights and power to the freezer off and hid outside it so he could warn the Jewish hostages if the terrorist came downstairs.

What they are not saying is that he took a freight elevator upstairs and ran out a back door. Presumably the same door he could have guided the poor jews he was "saving".
Leave it to the French to fall in love with the enemy every time.

He deserves citizenship and the Legion d'honneur.

Maybe Israel can do the same thing (make him a citizen, like Sandra Samuel)?

Wow, forty eighter. How sick of you to smear someone who saved lives. But tell us - why didn't a Jewish employee of that kosher store save fellow jews? Surely they, too, knew about that back door.

Thank you for the link, I know from reading the news that the young Muslim escaped before the completion of the siege. Nonetheless, I didn’t want to judge his motives, now that you provided the link I understand what motivated his escape.

Years ago I wrote that you live a fantasy, believing you know everything and you are always right. The fact is that I don’t remember even one time when you claimed something as a fact that you were right. Yea, not even once.

@Forty Eighter, did you check the link to the Washington Post? You were totally off base with your assertions. I think an apology is due. That is, if ever you want to be taken seriously while posting here. Think of it as quality control. So who are you really. . .changing the climate of fear, one soul at a time . . .

@Lassana Bathily . . . good on you, all the world needed that sliver of light. Well done!

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to make him an Israeli citizen?

Mr. Gefiltefish, the man WANTS to be a French citizen and has applied for that status. Why would it be MORE appropriate to give the man something that he hasn't indicated that he wants over something that he has? There are certainly all sorts of recognitions that Israel can offer him, including citizenship if he indicates that he wants it, although since he lives in France and wants to be French, I don't know why he would want it.
