A Druze 21-year-old student who just completed a tour of duty in the IDF was attacked and brutally beaten Thursday in Jerusalem by a mob of Orthodox Jewish men, Ynet reported.
Ten men wearing yarmulkes (skullcaps) reportedly jumped and beat Tommy Hasson and broke glass bottles on his head and body after hearing him speak Arabic with a friend.
Hasson, from Daliyat al-Karmel near Haifa, had recently moved to Jerusalem to study music.
The men hit the 21-year-old Druze music student and broke glass bottles on him.
"I finished work at 11 pm at the Jerusalem Gold Hotel, near the central bus station. As soon as I got out, at the bus station, there was a group of people – about ten individuals. They saw that I spoke Arabic with another person from East Jerusalem who was with me. They started to say a few words and threw a small trash can at my head. I stayed for a few minutes and then someone said to me, ‘What do you want?’ insultingly. Someone spat at me and I hit him. And then everyone came at me. They all hit me. (With) glass, bottles. They were a big group (and) they yelled – they could not do anything and did not stop, Tommy Hasson said.
“I only managed to escape to the bus station's entrance after a few minutes,” Hasson continued, “and there a few people sat me down, gave me water and took care of me – they called an ambulance until the police arrived. They started asking me questions. In the meantime, blood ran down all over me – my head, my ears and on my shirt. I have no idea who they are. They just saw me speaking Arabic and I have no idea why they chose to harass me specifically."
A shop owner saw the attack from a distance but did not call police because he thought it was just a fight among young teens.
Hasson's Orthodox attackers fled before police eventually arrived.
There is no security camera footage of the attack because that area of the bus station reportedly doesn’t have any security cameras.
Hasson was taken to Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem for treatment.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who knew Hasson from his days in the IDF, called Hasson's father after hearing about the attack to show solidarity with the family and the Druze community.
"A month ago, two Druze police officers were murdered [by terrorists] during terror attacks and now a Druze gets hit by Jews. When we were asked if we were scared that Tommy lives in Jerusalem we said no, because he lives next to Jews,” Tommy's brother, Julian, told Ynet.
No arrests appear to have made.

Like mad dogs - bereft of any moral guidance and running wild. No better than the Arabs they despise. Druzes are said to be decent people and good citizens. Not a peep from the rebbes, is that right?

Power mad ignorant animals. Better these pig people be publically flogged for touching this young man. A pox on them and their children. May they only produce cretins for the next five generations, and may their names be blotted out as enemies of the Jewish people.

I believe that President Rivlin is the only mensch in the Israeli government.
