The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty will likely dissolve itself and cease to exist, the Daily News has just reported.
The scandal-ridden anti-poverty arm of the New York City Jewish community will reportedly parcel out its programs to various other nonprofits and shut its doors.
Met Council officials reportedly met with other Jewish nonprofit leaders about the closure today – the same day the met Council’s chief legislative patron, New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, was arrested by the FBI for allegedly taking millions of dollars in kickbacks.
The Met Council’s former Modern Orthodox CEO, William E. Rapfogel, is serving a state prison sentence of up to 10 years for stealing at least $9 million from the agency. The embezzlement scheme involved doling out some of the stolen money to politicians’ campaign war chests. Silver was not indicted in that scheme and no evidence was publicly shown that Silver benefitted in any way from it. Still, the suspicion that he did benefit remains. Two other top Met Council officials, one a haredi rabbi, also pleaded guilty in the scheme, as did the Met Council’s Breslov hasidic insurance broker.
Rapfogel and Silver were close friends, and Rapfogel’s wife Judy is Silver’s chief of staff.
The Met Council reportedly wanted to merge with another nonprofit but was unable to find one with the right range of services.
So now the Met Council will reportedly give their existing state and city service contracts to several other nonprofits. That process, however, will require city and state approval.

Sad day for NY city and state and very sad day for friends of Shelly. I'm saddened by the two bad news that occurred toay.
I (and I reccomend, everyone else), be careful with the beast Preet Baharara. He will come after you with a vengeance. He will not stop till he gets you. Not game over till he finds you guilty. Period. He doesn't give up. He will run you over and then back up, just to be sure he's got you.
He makes Elliott spritzer look like an angel.

To the precise extent that Preet strikes fear in the hearts of the Orthodox and Haredi mafiosi in NY - of whom Silver is the patron, the Don, the fountainhead - he has my thanks. Let his office empty the political and sexual-abuse cesspools all the way down the Hudson from Albany to East Ramapo and over to Brooklyn. The sooner the better. If he's got the time a little side trip to Bloomingburg might be a good idea as well.

Preet Bhara has arrested over 35 jews in the last year I heard, if that's not out of the ordinary then I don't know what is. The fact that he is a Muslim or his father is Muslim surly brings suspicions to his motives as we all know Muslim terror and that Muslims don't particularly like Jews.

If ignorance is bliss - the two of you must be living in the Garden of Eden. To the extent that Preet has arrested as many Jews as you claim, that doesn't make him a Jew-hater. I'm sure that the number of Jews arrested is a small percentage of the total number of people prosecuted by the Southern District US Attorneys Office. Preet has prosecuted Al-Queda linked terrorists - does that make him anti-Arab? What about all the mob prosecutions? Does that him anti-Italian? No! Preet is anti-criminal.
You both need to take off you blinders and wake up to the fact that Jews, orthodox and secular, commit crimes and that they get arrested when they are found out. Blind faith should be reserved for the good Lord, not for the flawed people he created.

Judging by the number of misdeeds engaged in by religious Jews and reported by SR since I have been following his web site (2+ years), I'd say Preet has a long way to go.
The recent death of Brooklyn Rabbi Dovid Winiarz, 49, in a traffic accident will leave 11 survivors who could probably have used the help of an agency like the Metropolitan Council. I don't know the ages of his 10 children, but I am doubtful that they are receiving as good a secular (and public) education as I did. Let's hope I am wrong.

BTW, Jake Verbo, you claim that it's a fact that Mr. Bharara or his father is a Muslim. The FACT is that his father is a Sikh and his mother a Hindu. Do you not know the difference?
A glance at the record will show that Mr. Bharara is an equal opportunity prosecutor. He has prosecuted Arabs for terrorism, fellow Indians for insider trading, Irish for political corruption, Russians for arms trafficking, the Gambinos for racketeering, Toyota for wire fraud, Deutsche Bank for fraudulent lending, and on and on.
Two things to take away: (1) the Southern District of NY is lucky to have such an excellent prosecutor on the job and (2) if you are going to pull shtick, be sure not to violate federal law in the Southern District of NY.

People like Silver and Rapfogel are martyrs to many ultra-Orthodox. Jews can do no wrong wherever they live. Neve.. Ever. Thus, in this case as in all criminal cases brought against the ever persecuted people, the only possible (Talmudic) logical conclusion is that if a frum Jew is arrested it has to be due to anti-Semitism. For what other reason could it be?
It is obvious that most people on this blog have never read the Scriptures or Tanya. The Jews are a holy people, a nation of priests. The Chosen People are the only living creatures that are endowed with a special holy soul. Christian's don't have that soul let alone a pagan like Mr. Bahara who, by the way, is worst than Hitler, y"s. The secular court is just like Nazi's. It's like Germany all over again. Where do we run to now?
