I see a few ppl 'carrying', why aren't they attacking them? Oh well, maybe next week.
Posted by: dh | November 16, 2014 at 12:09 PM
Your headline conveniently neglects to mention that (at least from the video) the taxi is attempting - quite deliberately - to drive over one of the chaps remonstrating with him. It's only at that point that the bystanders start to hit the car.
This is not some random car getting lost and ending up in Mea Shearim - the taxi driver would know exactly where he was. If he wants to make his point about driving on Shabbos then he has to accept the consequences. Idiot.

Because Jerusalem has the status of a walled city, and therefore has an eruv that is contested. That’s why.
Posted by: Shmarya Rosenberg | November 16, 2014 at 12:15 PM
Golders Green –
Before that point, genius, the haredim blocked the taxi and threatened the driver in doing so. And the driver only edged the car forward at a very slow speed – so slow that no one would be injured. As usual, facts and haredim (like you) go together like oil and water.

Ishkibibble has the right question. Who used the (evil) smartphone to record a movie on Shabbos?
Or maybe the complaint was that the taxi charged double on Shabbos? :^)
Posted by: Sarek | November 16, 2014 at 12:37 PM
Golders Green----THE TRAGEDY IS THAT HE DIDNT RUN OVER HIM A THOUSAND TIMES AND DISMEMBERED HIM,AND GOYLEM THAT YOU ARE SHOULD GO AND COMMIT YOURESELF INTO A LUNATIC ASYLEM.
Posted by: jancsibacsi | November 16, 2014 at 12:45 PM
It wasn't even Shabbos yet, it was during the 40 minute interim between candle lighting and shkiah, sunset.
That explains the touching of a car which is forbidden on Shabbos, and explains the video being taken. See the bochurim running carrying their overnight backpacks (one dude even with a guitar) getting to their Shabbos hosts just in time for shkia.
The shabbos gates for the yiddisher neighborhoods are closed at candle lighting, and this driver had obviously gone thru the gates after they were closed, that's what annoyed the "shouters" (or shoyters), they should have just told him to zoom off and get out of yiddisher neighborhoods before sunset. He sure learnt his lesson he won't do that again.

So yoni, it was not shabbos so they were all doing melocho but objecting to somebody else doing so. bullshit upon bullshit you liar troll. And 40 minutes? Wrong religion pal.

Yeshivish world znews already reacted with outrage against taxi driver, of course...
Posted by: BT Archipelago | November 16, 2014 at 01:50 PM
Perhaps the horseless carriage frightened them.
Posted by: Jeff | November 16, 2014 at 01:53 PM
Oh, thanks. Boy, are you testy today.
Posted by: dh | November 16, 2014 at 02:08 PM
FFB, finally shows he's a fake, phony and a fraud. 40 min between lichtzin and shekiah, lmao.
Posted by: Singlemalt | November 16, 2014 at 02:35 PM
In Jerusalem, there ***are*** 40 minutes between candlelighting and shkiah. It’s an old Jerusalem custom officially recognized by the city government.
Posted by: Shmarya Rosenberg | November 16, 2014 at 02:39 PM
Assuming the driver is even Jewish, which we don't know, I'm sure that with this wonderful behaviour he will be committing to be shomer shabbos in future.
I wonder what shabbos feels like for a charedi? It is meant to be a rest from work, but every day is a rest from work for them.

I believe an apology is in order...
Posted by: Jack (no - not that one..) | November 16, 2014 at 04:39 PM
Yes, of course, that is correct there are 40 mins in jerusalem. Its been a long time. Apologies.
Posted by: Josh | November 16, 2014 at 05:23 PM
BTW, what is all the litter in tthe street? Probably flyers handed out and then dropped in the street in a typical charedi way.
Posted by: David | November 16, 2014 at 06:09 PM
You are all wrong. Hashem Himself recorded the video so that the Haredim would not have to transgress.
Posted by: Heblew | November 17, 2014 at 02:10 AM
Too bad the driver was not armed. Several shots in the air would have dispersed that crowd.
Posted by: Alter Kocker | November 17, 2014 at 10:23 AM
If anything, those nuts delaying the driver and could have caused him to be Mechalel Shabbos.
Even if the driver were a Chiloni and was not concerned about Shabbos, it would still be on their heads.
Another silly thing on their part, the Taxi wasn't there to pick up a fare, so that means he was dropping someone off and got them home in time for Shabbos, well before Shkia.
Posted by: Barry1 | November 17, 2014 at 12:03 PM
Golders Green, you idiot, if these barbarians are going to swarm around a car and threaten the driver, then they will have to deal with the possible consequences - getting mown down like the animals they are.
Posted by: chicken swinging is pagan | November 17, 2014 at 03:35 PM
