Satmar: Pray For Male Arrested Mortgage And Welfare Fraud Scammers; Women Arrested Not Mentioned

Satmar -- Pray for arrested mortgage and welfare fraud scammersPray that God will help the 14 Satmar hasidim "financial supporters of our holy schools" arrested today and accused of mortage and welfare fraud and that they "should find favor in front of the judge and be freed from their troubles," Satmar Aharon faction says. And none of the arrested women are mentioned, and prayers are not requested for them – only for their male family members who give Satmar money.

Will they pray for me if I cheat on my taxes?
What if I put on a black hat?

Even before they made that announcement i was saying tehilim and crying out loud to hashem, thinking why oh why lord of the universe did you create such trash among our holy people.

Actually what it says is that all the students should pray for the "supporters of our institutions", meaning, because they donate tons of money to Satmar then pray for them.

Business as usual - give away a lot of money and the frumma world comes to your rescue.

They forgot the women

Im praying...

...that these motherfuckers get sentences that make Rubashkins look like a walk in the park.

(1) I spy, if you notice they are only praying for the men who got arrested, the women i guess don't deserve their prayers.

(2) the people starving all over the world and all the children being killed by Isis etc... etc.. should wait because G-D almighty is busy listening to the Satmar prayers for the Hasidim Gangsters, he could not be bothered for now.

The bottom says "should find favor in front of the judge and be freed from their troubles,"

...or the Israeli soldiers who put their lives and bodies on the line every day to protect our brethren in Israel. Those, they spit on, literally. What an amazing discredit to the Jewish world these Satmars are.

So let me get this right - they are upset that these thieves who stole money and gave it to their "schools" have now been caught?

Since when is giving stolen money a valid form of tzedakah?

I hope the "school" assets are sold to try and recover some money and the students then get sent to real schools.

They are only praying for the 8 arrested men of the Rubin clan but not their 4 arrested womenfolk.

Who is praying for Desiree?

It is indeed appropriate for people who believe in an all powerful God to pray for their fallen brothers.

It is equally essential that the community be guided to understand why what their brothers and sisters did was evil, contrary to the very essence of their stated beliefs, and behavior to never be tolerated.

A teaching moment.

If you believe that there will be a judgement day, this is yet another example of why one needs to run very far from the established frum world if you want to pass that ultimate test.

You have been warned.

God told me.

As they say "If you speak to G-d you are religious, if G-d speaks to you, you are insane.".

Indeed!

They can pray all they want. They are still going down, and going down hard.

Hope there are no Israeli or Zionist prison wardens at Otisville.

"They can pray all they want. They are still going down, and going down hard.

And you know this, how?
If I had a buck for all the self promoted prophets.....

Their Moyl didn't properly perform the Metzitza Bpeh on them, so they got punished.

This all goes back to the point I was making about Rechnitz (who I fear will suffer a similar fate). The frumma world worships the money because it gets them the kovod, it gets them the shidduchim and it gets them a seat at the head of the table. As Rechnitz himself writes about himself on Wikipedia, it gets celebritied and roshei yeshiva from around the world to attend his daughter's wedding. It gets names on buildings, tributes at dinners, and it gets interviews with Larry King. The mosdos shower every manner of honor and glory on these lowlifes up to and including their conviction and imprisonment.

As usual, chasidic and Charedi rabbis will not pray for the women. Women are scapegoated for being the cause of all evil. The men were arrested because the women dressed immodestly and spoke lashon harah.

"Since when is giving stolen money a valid form of tzedakah?"

David - You clearly did not get a Haredi education, otherwise you would know that "Torah True Judaism" teaches that stealing from goyim is not considered stealing. Satmar and all Chasidim believe this, as well as their non-Chassidic but rather "Yeshivish" Haredi brethren.

There are Haredim with inner moral compasses which nag at them every once in a while about the unethical Haredi Torah belief that stealing from goyim is not considered stealing. So they have a long list of reasons for why what they do isn't stealing. Pick your choice: (a) It's just checking off the wrong box on the entitlement form, it's not really "stealing". (b) All the non-Jews do it, why can't we? (c) It's not fair that we pay Real Estate Taxes with no benefit because our kids go to private schools. If if our kids would go to public school then the government would have to pay tons of money, so they owe me. I therefore am entitled to get this money "back" from the government, so it's not stealing. (d) It's for Torah, so it's not stealing, because the world depends upon Torah, and would stop spinning without Torah, so we're allowed to do this for Torah. (d) There is no other way to live life as a Frum Jew what with Yeshiva tuitions, Pesach food, clothing, all the extra food and clothing for all the other holidays, Shabbos every week, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, Weddings. In order to live like a Frum Jew, we need to do these kinds of things sometimes. Besides, it's money from big companies which have so much in profit, they are not missing these few dollars. Or, it's money from the gov't which tax us unfairly because we don't send our kids to public school, so it's okay that we do this. (e) The police aren't busy in our neighborhoods because there is so little violent crime that we commit. Because of this it's only fair that all those tax dollars saved should go back to us, and this is how it does. (f) At least we don't do violent crimes like kill, rape, kidnap, home break-ins, muggings, car jackings. The worst we ever do is a little fraud, just some paperwork mistakes. We're still good people, unlike those who do all those violent crimes. (z) All of the above. (And there are lots more excuses where those came from!)

If it were up to Chassidim, women would be invisible. Chasidim and other Haredim consider women to be included in the prayers for the men they are married to, so that there is no need to mention the women by name.

In the olden days (20 years ago and more) when a Haredi institution was honoring a couple, it would say both the husband and wife's name, and have a picture of the couple together. Now, it has become the Frum trend that even in non-Chasidic Haredi institutions the women are completely erased. Not only is there no picture of the woman, but the woman's name is not even there, she is only referenced as "Mrs." So you will have a picture of the husband, and underneath it will say that they are honoring "Mrs. & Mrs. Yosef Shmerel." In the past there was a picture of the couple and it would say "Yosef & Sara Shmerel."

By Chasidim they have always done this.

They claim that theologically they believe "Ishto k'gufo" - which is a concept that loosely translates to "A man's wife is like himself." So that a prayer for a man is a prayer for his wife as well. But the reality is that there is not even a hint of anything 20th century about how they consider or treat women. They are very proud to be anti any positive results stemming from the women's lib movement.

So when you think of the shtetl with nostalgia, remember that the women during those times were treated like garbage, and that they still are in the Haredi worlds which try to mimic the shtetl. It's all nice and quaint looking from the outside. But women are not allowed to drive a car, grow their hair, be mentioned in any social setting by name, be acknowledged publically in any way, and need to give birth to and raise over 10 children. Children are beaten regularly in school (it's part of their educational methods that corporal punishment is a necessity). In general, it's just not a pretty picture if you look past the quaint outfits and seeming projection of piety.

@Abracadabra - “the world would stop spinning without Torah”

Excellent – but remember than in the haredi universe, the world does not spin or move in any way. It stands perfectly still - as it says in Tehillim “the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved” ( Psalms 96:10). It is the rest of the universe that spins around us – set in motion of course by god who is the “prime mover.”

When you‘re raised to believe that the whole universe literally revolves around you, it’s not too hard to see yourself as very very special and to justify “misappropriating” a few dollars from the “goyim” who surely are not smart enough to even notice!

Waiting for them to pray that they shouldnt be nichshul

The men folk know what to do. Sit for several or more years, receive visits from their rebbe in the pen and return triumphantly when their time comes to their well-earned spots on the mizrach vant. It's the vaibele who are - excuse the expression - screwed. Guess they will have to write the play book for the women folk who will follow. Nebech. Ohalecha Yaakov.

Not sure everyone here will appreciate the irony, but...

elsewhere...

tonight is the opening of the Agudah Convention, a weekend full of fressing and back slapping among the mega rich wealthy "askanim", many of whom are as if not more guilty than these lowlifes.

I grew up in the Satmar, until I was about 9 years old, when my parents separated and my mother ran for her life.

She warned me not to go by appearances, as there are many with the long swaying payos who are evil (and more who are good) but that their philosophy of demonizing everyone else, the Zionists, the Mizrachists, the Agudists, etc. is an evil philosophy.

I am now very grateful to her, and for not having anything to do with my father who died a few years ago. (Whopee.. the worms are eating him in the KJ Satmar cemetery rather than another cemetery...)

The problem here is that this chilull Hashem will damage all Jews (even those who are reform & conservative) and more so any Orthodox Jew with a kippah. It reinforces the Antisemitic stereotype that Jews are greedy; take all from a country & give back nothing. How many Hasidim and ultra Orthodox got injured or died in Iraq & Afghanistan?

This flier given to impressionable children, is not wrong; we pray for people arrested who most likely will be found guilty; who have AIDS because of their wrong actions; even those who commit serious crimes. BUT we acknowledge that they did something wrong especially to our children! We don’t don’t want them to grow up like the Rubin’s, the Webermans etc. To inculcate these young children to pray for them and venerate them because in effect they stole millions and gave from stolen money to their mosdos is בצע ברך נאץ ד' !!

Same as someone else pointed out re the Agudah Convention tonight; a true place of idol worship, from our Biblical history: the עגל הזהב “the Golden Calf” . They would have been more honest if they would place on the dais a huge sculpture of a Golden Calf, plastered with $100. bills. And before the מעריב prayers.. all bow down...

Also wondering ... if in any Charedi Shul this Shabbos a Rav will have guts to words like these below or similar:

"מען וועט חס ושלום נאך הרג'נען אונזערע אייניקלעך דא אין אמעריקע וועגן די גניבה וגזילהת וואס רובין, יאקאבאוויטש, שיק וכו' מאכען אן א גאנצע צייט! כסדום היינו! ..

Will never happen.

in Williamsburg they announced tonight that as a protest to the arrested Hasidim, and as a form of prayer, there is no Over night Kigel going to be sold (eaten) this week.

Whats worse ? What these guys did? Or whatever

Whats worse? What these guy did in money fraud ? Or what Rabbi Freundlich did looking up women asses ?

@Flatbusher

And that was my point when I cited Rechnitz's self-promoted Wikipedia page when he writes that his daughter's wedding was attended by "thousands of guests, including many celebrities, community leaders, politicians, and Roshei Yeshiva from around the world"

Look at where we've come when the Roshei Yeshiva are last in the line after celebrities and politicians!

Barry, l'm praying for Desiree and I hope my prayers are answered:-)

Flatbusher, please translate the yiddish

Can you imagine, we have Wolmark, Satmar and the new Weinstein charges all coming to trial over the next few months with no doubt splashy headlines all over town. What a horrible time for Jews to suffer the inevitable negative publicity.

"Flatbusher, please translate the yiddish."

"We will חס ושלום, destroy our grandchildren here in America with thievery and larceny."

Remember that dude called Moshe Ben Amram & Yocheved? You know, the one who was all humble and modest and stuff, who didn't even leave his name on his own kever, let alone on the walls of honor at these mosdot where they wouldn't even give him a farbrent shtickele kugel if he showed up in person because he doesn't own a black hat and he never wrote a check? Yeah, that guy. I'm wondering what he's thinking now.

He was a great guy. Too bad he didn't start a religion. Oh, wait ...

Allan - Thank you. And I stand corrected! How right you are. In Torah there is no axis on which the world turns. It is the sun and all the stars that revolve around the firmament. I mistakenly applied my treif scientific knowledge to this Torah belief. See, that's why it's dangerous to learn science! It just insidiously creeps in and before you know it, makes you a heritic. What I should have said is that without someone learning Torah somewhere in the world, the world would simply seize to exist.

Everything EXACTLY except the "Bat" Mitzvahs" no such thing in that corner of the world it is BaS or bust. Plus the occasion of a girl reaching adulthood is marked by ..well...not really anything other than being required to fast...dont really make parties - maybe a special Shabbos - like meal for the extended family so I doubt its included in that laundry list of excuses.

I am guessing that it is not about davening for the women, it is about the arousal/erections that listing (and reading) womens names in public could bring on. As we already know that is the worst sin in the world. Touching little boys, not so much. Stealing and the resultant chilul Hashem, not so much.

Shmarya
YOU should post the manes of the women for anyone who wishes to say tihillim for them.

Sorry it should read names not manes

Unbelievable what the lack of education can do to the mind but now thta you brought it up:

1. They are both really bad. But, if we decided to do a comparison then we'd have to bring in all the indictments, arrests and other indications of possible bad behavior in say the last few years. Whose list would be waaay longer? So Freundel would still be heavily outweighed, especially if you consider some non- Chareids were brought in to do the dirty work of Chassidic created schemes - think Rapofogel and Lamm.

2. And this is the more important point:
Have you seen one proclamation coming from anywhere in the Modern orthodox world about davening for Freundel to be let off the hook from his troubles? I think not. Quite the opposite. THATS what this article is about NOT not who is worse.

If the desired outcome is achieved, prayer is said to work and God gets the credit. If it isn't, it's usually rationalized by blaming human free will.

I find the concept of a deity who has created us and dropped us into the middle of this nightmare we call "life" far more offensive than anything these people have done. This is the reason I find it increasingly difficult to talk to people of faith, even those of liberal theology. I see them all as suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

Paraphrasing Cuba Gooding, I keep telling my friend the MO rabbi, "Show me the deity." Of course, he can't, but he rationalizes away my inability to perceive the divine as some form of disability.

Noname - Of course there are no "Bat" Mitzvahs in the Haredi world. I was curious if anyone would catch onto that one. You did. Not only aren't there "Bat" Mitzvahs, but there aren't even "Bas" Mitzvahs. The more liberal Yeshivish have them now, over the past 10 years, but it's relatively new. Chasidim don't have it at all.

It's good the girls are too young at that point to protest that everything in the world is made of their brothers turning 13, and their turning 12 is a non-party by design. And let's not forget their birth parties - Boys get a Shalom Zachor, a Vacht Nacht and a Bris. And a girl gets her parents sponsoring the shul Kiddush one Shabbos when they get around to it. No doubt it's much easier on the parents and extended family when a girl is born - they don't have a marathon of party planning within 7 days time. But the glaring extreme difference of celebration between a boy being born and a girl being born is, well, glaring. And you can't even excuse this difference with "Tznius" (as they use to excuse the Bar/Bas Mitzvah difference). It's simple - boys are celebrated with 3 parties in the first week of their birth and girls get a little honorable mention at some point in the next 2 years with a bowl of chulent for the local daveners in their honor.

ummmmm.... I'd rather have the girls' non-party than the boys' bris.

No contest.

For the record, it never refers to them as "holy". Scotty, you should learn some Yiddish.

Uneducated morons resort to criminal acts to survive. If they had a secular education and a profession they would not engage in this criminal acts. Sadly this is just the TIP of an iceberg. More to come from, ch, willy, skver, kj..etc.food stamps, medicaid, ssi sect. 8, paper marriages as single mother .....wait for the next shoe to drop. The chilul hashem from them is huge and the SILENCE OF THEIR 'leaders' ???? is amazing. The talmud says " SOF GANAV LITLIYAH".....

ichaimJay--Lets face it they learn gemoro all their lifes all that twist and dreikop stuff they have to utilize it somehow no?:))

Shmarya,
The guy who translated it did not do an accurate job.
They are not referred to as "holy", they are referred to as "supporters of our holy institutions", in the frum world it's common to refer to the educational institutions as "holy" (mosdoteinu hafedoshim in hebrew)
I know you hate being corrected but any one claiming to be a journalist has to have basic standards

Of course they need a pidyon shivion fund for these "poor" HOLY yidden They live on a limited household income.
