The Canada Revenue Agency, Canada’s equivalent of the US Internal Revenue Service, has put a $4.4 million lien on properties owned by the haredi Lev Tahor cult in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec, the Montreal Gazette reported Friday based on a report in the French-language Journal de Montréal.
The lien is on 34 properties owned by the Society for Spiritual Development, Lev Tahor’s non-profit organization. It lists Lev Tahor’s spokesman, Uriel Goldman, as its president.
The haredi cult lived in Ste-Agathe for approximately 10 years until its members fled to Chatham-Kent in rural Onario last November to avoid pending court rulings against them in a case brought by Quebec’s Department of Youth Protection (DYP).
DYP claimed children in the cult were maltreated and were living in squalor. Some children were allegedly forced to marry well under the age allowed in Quebec. And there were also allegations of child abuse, with some of the abuse allegedly carried out by the cult’s leadership.
Lev Tahor ultimately fled Ontario for rural Guatemala, some after promising a local judge that they would not leave the province. The cult was eventually expelled from a rural lakeside resort town after their bizarre and off-putting behavior frightened locals. The cult relocated to an old vacant office building in Guatemala City, and claimed to have plans to convert it into housing with a synagogue, study hall and classrooms.
wherever theese misfits go they leave in their wake devastation..

How much money would they have to have earned to owe this much tax?
They must be rolling in cash.

. . . the latest actions taken by the Canadian government against the Lev Tahors feels as if there is something is amiss. There is something here that is very wrong with the process. Almost a Goliathian struggle of the Lev Tahors. I am not of the belief that they will be adequately represented in their struggles to self determination.
