Today was another in a long line of bad days for the haredi former Mayor of Jerusalem Rabbi Uri Lupolianski.
A judge in the Jerusalem District Court has just ruled that the Yad Sarah charity founded and originally run by Lupolianski (sometimes spelled "Lupoliansky") will have to pay Mordecai Peretz Hirshenboim 33,577,512 NIS (more than $8.6 million) after Lupolianski when head of Yad Sarah and Yad Sarah itself defrauded him in a land sale by failing to disclose secret restrictions on the use of the land, Behadrei Haredim reported. Those restrictions were in place because of previous legal agreements with a neighbor.
The restrictions on the land’s use dramatically decreased the value and usability of the property, and Yad Sarah under Lupolianski’s leadership hid those restrictions from Hirshenboim.
Justice Moshe Bar-Am ordered Yad Sarah to pay the Hirshenboim NIS 33,577,512 (more than $8.6 million) plus interest along with NIS 2,825,334 ($726,000) plus interest – the price of the original sale.
Yad Sarah also has to pay Hirshenboim’s court costs of NIS 1,180,000 ($303,000) for a total of more than $9.6 million.
Yad Sarah loans and gives medical equipment like walkers, canes and other medical devices to Israelis from all backgrounds and levels of religious observance.
Lupolianski was convicted earlier this year in the Holyland bribery scandal that also ensnared the former Jerusalem Mayor and Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Olmert and several other leading political and real estate development figures.
