The estate of Guma Aguiar, the eccentric philanthropist connected primarily to Zionist Orthodox and Chabad causes, has been divided among his heirs by a Florida court, Arutz Sheva reported based on a report in the Hebrew-language daily Yediot Achranot.
The 35-year-old Aguiar – who had a history of manic depression and mental illness – disappeared in his boat off Fort Lauderdale in June, 2012
The court reportedly approved a compromise in which Aguiar's wife, Jamie, his mother, Ellen, and his sisters Adriana and Angelika will divide the properties.
Aguiar’s mother and siblings had fought a protracted 2-year fight for control of the properties against Aguiar’s wife.
Jamie Aguiar will reportedly receive a large ornate luxury penthouse in the Mamila neighborhood near Jerusalem’s Old City valued at $17 million.
Aguiar’s mother and two sisters will receive eight smaller homes that Aguiar owned in the Yemin Moshe neighborhood and the Jewish Quarter itself. Those eight properties have a combined value of $27 million.
15 other properties will be divided as follows:
• One third will go to Aguiar’s wife.
• One third will go to Aguiar’s four children.
• One third will go to Aguiar’s mother and his two sisters.
Aguiar will reportedly be officially soon be declared dead by the court.
Both sides in the case will reportedly request that an Israeli court approve the compromise they reached.
Some people familiar with case believe Aguiar may be alive and hiding from his wife, who had allegedly sought to divorce him (she denies asking for a divorce) – although this compromise agreement may put an end to that speculation.
