Members of Lev Tahor are believed to have falsified some passports, marriage licences and birth certificates, according to an affidavit filed by Quebec provincial police to obtain a search warrant.
The document, called an Information to Obtain, is a written testimony that sets out allegations to a judge to get a search warrant. The sworn document was signed by Sgt. Normand Dion of the Sûreté du Québec.
CBC/Radio-Canada obtained a copy of the extensive document pertaining to Lev Tahor, the ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect that in November 2013 fled Quebec for Chatham, Ont. to evade a youth protection order and allegations of child abuse.
Some of the documents left behind by the Lev Tahor families as they hastily moved to Ontario were seized by SQ investigators.
The Sûreté du Québec affidavit also details how the suspicion of falsified documents was the crux of the search warrant executed by Quebec's provincial police in Chatham, Ont. on Jan. 29, 2014.
The SQ document of which CBC/Radio-Canada obtained a copy is dated Jan. 28 — the day before the search was conducted in Chatham.
None of the allegations against Lev Tahor made in this affidavit have been tested in court, and no member of Lev Tahor has been charged in connection to them.
Document details
The SQ document lists items seized by the police during the searches conducted in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Que., the home of the Lev Tahor community before it fled to Chatham.
Investigators seized two laptops, an external hard drive, various banking documents belonging to a company owned by Lev Tahor members, credit cards, marriage licences from Missouri, as well as Revenu Québec and Immigration Canada documents.
Investigators also found several bottles of medication, namely ibuprofen, antibiotics, medication to treat seizure disorders and an antipsychotic.
There have been allegations that Lev Tahor controlled children in the sect with medication.
A CD containing other documents that was handed to the SQ in the spring of 2012. The CD had been given to a Quebec rabbi by a former member of Lev Tahor.
The SQ in its affidavit alleged the CD contained documents primarily dating from 2010 and 2011, including a forged passport, power-of-attorney documents asserting control over members of Lev Tahor in case of incapacity, notarized real-estate sale documents and at least one other contract.
The SQ document alleged that most of the materials on the CD were tied to Mayer Rosner, one of the high-ranking members of Lev Tahor described by provincial police as leader Shlomo Helbrans's right-hand man.

Why this strange obsession with Lev Tahor? It's a small group of people with extreme religious ideas. Of all the stuff going on in the world, why key in on them? Why are they such a thorn in your side? Why cheerlead their persecution?

Compared to what happens on a routine basis in state-run foster care, or in any Muslim community in the Western world (I'm not mentioning the Middle East here, because that's Mordor,) the worst accusations against them are nothing. And a lot of the stuff is ludicrous-that they have a suicide pact, that they planned to go to Iran, that they refused to teach their children French while living in Quebec, possessing Ibuprofen-I mean, come on.

It's amazing to me that irreligious Jews are skeptics about everything except for any accusation made against religious Jews. Then the filter comes off.

I am very far from their view of Judaism, but if it comes down to them vs. American/Canadian civil servants, I think we should have at least a little skepticism. Or is it that since they wear funny clothes and peyoth and their women cover themselves up, we should hate them and assume any bad thing stated about them is objective truth?

Again, I don't know much about them, except that they are accused of stuff, and the accusations have the whiff of bullshit-they were found with Ibuprofen and antibiotics? This is the kind of thing that the state does when it has nothing but an intense dislike, so it throws everything at the wall to see if anything sticks-maybe you'll cop a plea, or go broke fighting an endless legal battle. For the civil servants responsible, there is effectively no downside-the chances of being held accountable for pressing spurious charges and wasting resources on a bullshit investigation are negligible, and the chances for a promotion and plaudits for tirelessly pursuing a gang of dangerous fanatical child endangerers are sizeable, so why not?

But what I do know is that according to the Canadians themselves, their government is negligent and abusive of the the children they confiscate from their parents. These kids are subject to sexual abuse and violence, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development doesn't even have an idea of how many kids they've got in foster care at any one time:

Right now, those kids' parents are personally responsible for their well-being. If, as a result of the hysteria directed at this "Haredi cult," they are taken into government custody, who will be responsible for them? The public servants, whose record is detailed above? People like Shmarya. who have fanned the hysteria, dehumanizing these families and campaigning for their continued persecution?

I do not believe that an individual Muslim's severity of observance has anything to do with his support for jihad. The same ones pimping young British girls and drinking are the ones going to Syria and fighting. So, no, I don't wonder why the "moderate" ones aren't more outspoken. Unless by "moderate" you mean "conversos to Progressivism," in which case I also do not wonder because the answer is obvious-there are very few of those, as Progressivism is not very appealing to Muslims.

But none of that has anything to do with the price of tea in China. Are Lev Tahor sending suicide bombers into Reform "temples"? Are they seeking to establish a global caliphate and subjugate the unbelievers? Seems to me that the most grievous crime they are charged with (aside from aggravated possession of Ibuprofen and Azithromycin, and failing to teach their children French and Darwinism) is forging some papers, hardly a hideous crime, certainly nothing compared with taking children away from their parents, neglecting them and turning them over to third parties for sexual abuse, which the Canadian government does regularly.

By what right do you call them "filth"? And who are you to demand their excommunication from Judaism, and to say what is and isn't Judaism? Are you the Jewish Pope? I haven't heard Lev Tahor calling anyone filth or demanding anyone's excommunication-maybe they are not the bad guys here.

joshua . . . please do elucidate. What is not clear to you? Is it that on one hand you are asking moderate muslims to speak up against other "extremist" muslims. The Irony here is you continue to slag a non-political but extremely religious segment of Jews, with whom the closest interaction you have had is reading an article or two posted here.

In other words you are doing to the Lev Tahors, as faith held Jews, what you yourself is accusing "extremist muslims" of wanting to do to all Jews!

In addition, if you are having problems comprehending what either B or myself has written, as it is apparent you are, possibly because of your rather short attention span, and, your want (for posterity's sake), to show your pseudo-intellectual demeanour, then by all means feel free to go and get the help you need!
