New York State police arrested a 38-year-old Wurtsburo man on suspicion that he shattered a window at one of Modern Orthodox developer Shalom Lamm’s Bloomingbug buildings, the Times Herald-Record reported.

Michael Essig was arrested Sunday and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, for allegedly breaking the large plate glass window of the former hardware store located at 79 Main Street.

He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

He was arraigned in Bloomingburg Village Court and sent to Sullivan County Jail. No bail set was set.

Lamm – who is building a controversial (and likely illegally marketed) Satmar-only high density 396-unit hasidic development in Bloomingburg – has previously insisted the vandalism is a hate crime.

Lamm’s development was first presented to the village through what many call a straw man developer as a low density retirement and vacation development complete with a 9-hole golf course.

Lamm has repeatedly accused locals of anti-Semitism, even though some of those locals who oppose him are Jews.

He, his family and almost 100 hasidim tried to improperly vote in Bloomingburg’s election this spring but all those votes were rejected.

Lamm’s Bloomingburg office and many of his local properties were raided by the FBI earlier this year and Lamm is believed to be under criminal investigation.

Lamm’s development will bring a minimum of 2,0000 to 2,500 hasidim to this tiny 420-person village.

Someone asked why there is anti-semitism, this is one of the reasons why. See their point of view. The residents of the town may not have started out that way, but now, all they see is Jews lying, cheating, stealing to grab land. I mean.. What can be more worse of a thing to do all things considered.

So people then take a look, build a conspiricy in their mind (which is always partially true), then they start to hate Jews. Then they wonder if they did the same scams for the Holocaust, and they hear damning evidence and that now colors their opinion. And sure enough another conspiracy in their head about Jews and eventually they dont trust them in their community. Im suggesting that this anti-semitism is historic to Jews for 2000 years. I know there's tales of mass murder in every country amd generation, some of the lore is comical, but if you look at factual evidence, Jews seemed to be an upstanding light to nations,

So it's easy to place a label on the guy, but look at the circumstances of his town.

YD, it's a sickness to be a hater of entire millions of people. what are u playing at, justifying bigotry? In the states here, there are such crimes going on, you don't go hating the ethnicity of the criminals. If the person here should be stopped legally by all means, stop him. But he may be a dealer they don't say though. plain possession is decrim in NY on the books. so possession of is not a violation. That's why I am thinking dealer amount, but I don't know the way that law works in NY. I understand you can have possession but not able to display in public. So if he had in the car, I don't see the display but maybe it is.

The developer cries to the media about the lack of love for his projects in the village, but refuses to acknowledge that he himself is the sole cause. Just about every project he has in the village has or has had a violation.

The residents are extremely frustrated. No one in the village can escape the sight of a developer project. Orange stop-work orders pasted everywhere but, the work continues. All the while the media give the developer the podium to broadcast that he is the victim.
