Satmar Synagogue Bans Hebrew
"REQUEST AND WARNING: It is forbidden to speak in our Beis Hamidrash in the impure sectarian Hebrew language."
A sign posted at the entrance ot a Satmar synagogue, apparently the main Satmar synagogue in Kiryas Joel, New York:
"REQUEST AND WARNING: It is forbidden to speak in our Beis Hamidrash in the impure sectarian Hebrew language."
(Or, "In our study hall [synagogue], it is forbidden to speak the language of minim [sectarians; any breakaway group from Judaism, used rabbinically primarily as a term for Christianity], the impure Hebrew.")

This is not a surprise. To this day many Chareidim apply the term "haRasha" to Ben Yehuda's name because he dared bring Hebrew into the 20th century.

A sign in Hebrew forbidding Hebrew? That is a new first. If someone reads the sign out loud, is he guilty?
So what is the difference between the "Holy Language" and "Ivris"? Is it specific words or phrases? The grammar is indistinguishable. A basic aspect of a rule is a definition of what falls within and without the rule, especially given that it is a "great and fearsome poison" and "worse than bowing 100 times to an idol".
Perhaps we should avoid the entire issue and speak only in the holy tongue of Yiddish or Russian, as did Moshe on Har Sinai. Is it only "democratzia" that is a problem? Is using Chashmal meaning electricity worse than bowing to an idol, or, since it is used in Nach, is it kosher, even though it does not mean electricity there? Or is it putir uval makin oisoi makas murdis?
I am amazed who much these people are full of themselves, but then again, that is not what they are full of, is it?

It appears that they are no longer Jews. They have their own language and they appear to follow their own rules. Let them find their own country where they can kowtow to Teitelbaum's dirty underwear and defile their children out of our sight.

So I can't speak Hebrew in shul, where a rabbi conducts "business". I also cannot read in a library, look around in an optometrist's office, speak in a dentist's office, eat in a restaurant (even a kosher one), excrete in a bathroom, nor listen in an audiologist's office.

They are so twisted and ignorant, Yiddish is a knock off of German

Let them not pray in the "impure" Hebrew language either, or read from the "impure" Hebrew Bible. These cretins have left the Jewish people.

"Yiddish is a knock off of German"
There's a certain delicious irony in that isn't there?

Yiddish is actually German Patois or Creole. It's gutter German.

The horrifying part is "It is better to bow down to a cross a hundred times"

In my youth, it was quite common among chareidi yeshiva bocher -yes even Lithuanians- to reserve lashon hakodesh for kodesh matters & speak yiddish for mundane stuff. May be then too they protested Zionism, Haskalah etc...
If that was their only sin, we could possibly have swallowed it easier.

funny that the psak itself is written in modern Hebrew.

So if I go there, the course in Biblical Hebrew that I took for my Master's degree will come in handy and I can speak Biblical Hebrew to my heart's content. Oh, there's that pesky "I'm a woman issue."

i wanted to write how stupid this is...
but to hear a bunch of dear jews call "hebrew impure"
just leaves a sadness in me for them.
why do they distance themselves from other jews?
do they honestly think g-d is that strict?
or do they even realize that they are acting/playing g-d with their judgements? which is beyond stupid.
stupid does not begin to describe this.
enough distance!!!!!!
i have to come up with an idea to bring satmar back to the people of israel. i have to get in touch with some satmar people i know. i'm going to see the rebbe. talk to him. if he'll see me.

I suspect they are ignorant even in biblical Hebrew.

"or do they even realize that they are acting/playing g-d with their judgements? which is beyond stupid. "
This is what it all comes down to.
I will also suggest that this is not historic for Judaism and is a very recent phenomina of the past 50 years.

@ruthie ----> i have to come up with an idea to bring satmar back to the people of israel. i have to get in touch with some satmar people i know. i'm going to see the rebbe. talk to him. if he'll see me.
Ruthie, I have great respect for your opinions; and yet, I can't help but think that "going to see the rebbe"....would either be futile or worse than futile.
This cult has (as a number of posters have pointed out) simply left Judaism. It's no longer Judaism, per se, it's a mixture of Judaism and man-made/man-decreed rules that are nothing more than an attempt to gain and hold power over other people.
Once again, I hope Jeff's prediction that this lifestyle does not even have a couple of generations comes true.

true that
Posted by: ruthie | August 16, 2014 at 02:01 PM
Lol! This is funny, people who dont even know anything about biblical Hebrew criticise Satmar for keeping the ancient language...
Robert J. Barron, there will be Satmar Jews long after there will be crooked lawyers in Colorado....
I love the frothing and spitting that happens on this site. Its great fun. I am a fan and will be back when the next from Jew is arrested. Let's see the suckers grind their teeth!

So G-d transmitted the Torah to Moshe in an impure sectarian language?
Posted by: skepticfrum | August 16, 2014 at 11:19 PM
THEY SHOULKD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES, HEBREW THE LANGUAGE OF THE TORAH IS BAD AND YIDDISH THE LANGUAGE OF THE NAZIS OH THAT IS PURE AND GOOD WHAT SHMOCKS
