Video: On CNN, Hamas Spokesman Cites Orthodox Five Towns Jewish Times Journalist's Call For Genocide Against Palestinians

Speaking to Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Hamas spokesperson Osama Hamdan cited Five Towns Jewish Times journalist Yochanan Gordon's call for genocide against all Gaza Palestinians as support for his own blood libel of the Jewish people. Hamdan's logic is insane and very dishonest, but his citation of Gordon's call for genocide (and his citation of a somewhat similar, although more craftily stated, idea allegedly floated by Zionist Orthodox Deputy Knesset Speaker Moshe Feiglin of the Likud Party) is noteable.

Yochanan Gordon is the son of the Five Towns Jewish Times publisher Larry Gordon, and the grandson of the late Chabad journalist Nison Gordon.

 

The Five Towns Jewish Times and the Times of Israel both took down Gordon's article after receiving complaints. But it was still up on Facebook and Twitter, and was widely shared – mostly by people who thought Gordon to be despicable.

Wolf Blitzer is a coward. He asked Hamdan specifically about blood libel, then gave Hamdan free reign to rant for 5 minutes, only interrupting him once to ask to address Blitzer's question.

Blitzer exposed Hamas anti-Semitism on worldwide television. He very politely gave Hamdan chances to apologize for what he said after Hamdan first tried to make it seem as if he had been misquoted. He let Hamdan hang himself.

If Hamdan had apologized, Blitzer could have pushed him further.

But Hamdan didn't – and that is the point.

Much of the vociferous anti-Israel tone found in parts of the media ended or was greatly reduced when that interview was aired.

Only a truly diseased mind would attack Blitzer for what he did.

In the past, I have found Blitzer to be little more than an Old Media "talking head", but I commend him heartily for at least trying to take this Hamas viper to task for propagating an age old anti-Semitic canard (which, as we know, is pretty much par-for-the-course in the Arab world).

As for Feiglin and this Gordon idiot, THEY should be taken to task for provinding ammunition to our enemies with their asinine statements.

Blitzer did a good and professional job with the interview. The evasions of Mr. Hamdan were plain for all to see. When Mr. Hamdan launched into his rhetoric about "We believe in Moses, We believe in...etc" to imply they respect all religions, I think one should have called him on this too. Perhaps a questions like "You said you believe in Moses, does that mean you believe the statements made by Moses in the Hebrew Torah, as we have it today, are correct, respectable and to be followed?" I know from personal experience that the common party line on this is "Well, you see, the Hebrew texts have been tampered with. Moses was a muslim, and never taught anything at deviance with the Qua'ran. Mohammed came, as a seal of the prophets, to correct these distortions". When ever you hear the rhetoric about "We respect people of the book" you could question further, and get answers like "The Book is not the Torah, or the New Testament, but rather Islamic books the Jews had, but were altered long ago by a Rabbinic conspiracy" I think you all catch the point, and will look further into this. Now there are Arab, and also Muslim moderates who do not buy into this way of thinking. How many moderates are there? Their numbers could be shockingly small, but they have to keep their heads down because the hard core fanatics are in the leadership positions, as this interview corroborates. I think Blitzer is doing us a service by exposing this tragedy. I would like to see more of these fanatic jihadist and salafist types exposed like this. But we have to seriously bear down on the fanatics because they are in the driver seat now, and their voices drown out the moderates. Anything that can strengthen the voices of Muslim moderation would be most welcome. Those voices need to be heard too, if we can find them. In fact this Hamas spokesman is so rancid, that he allows for the illusion that some of the Fatah fanatics appear moderate in comparison. They are not real moderates either, and we have to allow Hamas to strengthen those who are just slightly less rancid than Mr. Hamdan.

ps: The Yochanan Gordon article is a ridiculous piece of tripe. I think Mr. Hamdan's mention of him, and also Moshe Feiglin is a classic red-herring tactic to try to side-track Blitzer. Notice the professional side of Blitzer, as he did not deviate from the point of the interview. The interview was about Mr. Hamdan, not about Mr. Gordon or Mr. Feiglin.

That being said, I think separately, an analysis of Mr. Feiglin's statements would be in order if one happens to be interested in what he said.
