An Israel Police officer saved the life of a 23-year-old Eritrean refugee who had been beaten unconscious and near death by a gang of youths in Tel Aviv.

An Israel Police officer saved the life of a 23-year-old Eritrean refugee who had been beaten unconscious and near death by a gang of youths in Tel Aviv, Ynet reported.    

24-year-old Police Sergeant First Class Yosef Ganem responded to a call from the fourth floor of Tel Aviv's New Central Bus Station and found the refugee collapsed on the floor near death and several of his alleged attackers nearby.

"When I got there I saw the man sprawled out on the floor. He didn't have a pulse and he was unconscious."

Ganem administered emergency first aid.

"After several long minutes I managed to get a pulse," he told Ynet.

Magen David Adom and more police arrived and Ganem and the officers set out to search for the suspects while Magen David Adom medics transported the gravely injured refugee to a hospital where his condition is unknown.
 
"I remembered what [the alleged assailants] looked like from the beginning of the incident. I found them with the other officers and we arrested them. Two suspects had fled, so [we identified them] on security cameras and arrested them [later] in their homes,” Ganem said.
 
The six suspects, two of whom are minors and all of whom are from the city of  Lod, later told police that the refugee tried to rob one of them, and that sparked the attack.

However, the police investigation at this point has reportedly found that the suspects attacked the Eritrean refugee, punching and kicking him until he almost died.
