Chabad Rabbi Mordechai "Mottel" Gutnick has been elected President of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria. But his past actions call that election into question.

Chabad Rabbi Mordechai Gutnick has been elected President of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria [i.e., the Melbourne, Australia area], J-wire reported.

Gutnick is the rabbi of the Elwood Talmud Torah Congregation (ETTC; Elwood Shule), and that’s notable because pedophile David Cyprys is a member of that synagogue and served on its board – even after multiple abuse allegations against him surfaced and even after police openly launched the investigation of Cyprys that led to his convictions on multiple counts of child sex abuse and child rape involving not one or two but instead many children.

Gutnick refused to ban Cyprys from the synagogue and refused to remove him from the synagogue’s board even temporarily, and he wrote a letter vouching for Cyprys with the court.

“I warned him many times…[but he said] he did his own ‘investigations’ [of Cyprys] and found [that] all was okay. He feigned (?) shock when the rape convictions came in. At the time when he gave the [letter of] character reference [in support of Cyprys] to the court, he assured me…that it was not true,[and said] he would let me have a copy of the letter. Naturally, that didn’t happen, even with reminders,” a father of one of the Cyprys victims told FailedMessiah.com.

Under intense pressure, the synagogue eventually removed Cyprys from the board – but not in time to protect the children who were its tenants.

At that time, ETTC rented some of its space to a haredi lower yeshiva, Yesodei HaTorah College, and when the allegations against Cyprys (allegedly long known to Chabad but covered up) became public, it worried about its kids.

The head of Yesodei HaTorah sent a letter to parents explaining the situation the school found itself in because of the irresponsible behavior of Gutnick, Isaac Balbin and other members of the ETTC board.

The letter notes that, “Legal inquiries that have been made [by Yesodei HaTorah] indicate that there is minimal likelihood of any restraining or other orders being made by a Court with respect to the individual concerned before the Police investigation has completed and resulted in charges being laid. We have also initiated discussions with ETTC officials for them to try to reach some arrangement with the individual concerned that he refrain from attending the site at all, at least until the allegations have been resolved. These discussions are ongoing, but there is no guarantee of a positive result.” [emphasis added]

The rabbi who made the horrible decisions to not ban Cyprys even temporarily and who showed no concern at all for the children who studied in the synagogue every day is Mordechai “Mottel” Gutnick, the new head of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria.

Gutnick is also the senior dayan [rabbinic judge] of the Melbourne Beth Din and Rabbinic Administrator of Kosher Australia.

Gutnick’s father, Rabbi Chaim Gutnick, was president of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria for more than 30 years, and Mottel Gutnick’s brother is Rabbi Joseph “Diamond Joe” Gutnick, the Chabad emissary personally appointed by the late rebbe to deal with preventing any Israeli land for peace deals with Arabs. Diamond Joe is also a mining magnate who has allegedly run pump and dum affinity scams that have cost many people – including a number of Chabad ba’al teshuvas in Crown Heights, their life savings.

“It is essential that the Rabbinate ensure the ongoing development and dissemination of authentic and expert rabbinic and spiritual leadership and guidance in all areas of communal endeavour,” Rabbi Gutnick said in a rabbinical council press release issued after his recent election.

The RCV meeting in which Mottel Gutnick formally took office saw a number of resolutions passed – including a resolution committing to ensure that every synagogue in Victoria implements an accredited Child Protection Policy.

I was duly impressed that Scotty was only reporting 'general' news and avoiding maligning anyone today on Tisha B'av.

This Rabbi was also instrumental in covering up the abuse of power by the disgraced head of the Melbourne Beth Din - Reb' Sholom Gutnick. Abused his position of power for decades and they (all senior Rabbis in Melbourne and Sydney) all did nothing. They all knew how he treated women and made sexual advances on them. What did the Rabbi's do? In particular, This Rabbi said there needed to be more women coming forward to establish the truth - once 5 or 6 came forward, it had to be brushed under the carpet - it was too big and too damning for the Rabbinical bodies here in Australia to handle. So what did they do? Nothing? Held a Din Torah with his learning partner (chuvrusa)as one of the Rabbi's sitting on the Din Torah. The others were Rabbi Groner and Rabbi Wertzberger - they were useless. Women were made to sign confidentiality agreements and then problem went away. Only R' Sholom continued on his merry way. I didn't sign one of those agreements - and I know first hand that Rabbi M Gutnick knew about this case and many others and made the decision to DO NOTHING. He is not my Head Rabbi that's for sure! extreme nepotism!!!

Hey I promised myself not to touch your false reporter blog but... I just saw this cross referenced . if you knew ANYTHING and you certainly do NOT you would have known there was no pressure on the board and in fact it was I, yes me, who had him thrown off. For my troubles he tried to get an injunction against me coming 200 meters from and his kids.

Scott whoever your source is don't trust them, they simply don't know. In fact this also came out in the royal commission so go and suck eggs
