Bobov 45 Launches Boycott Of Businesses That Receive Kosher Supervision From Beit Din Judge Who Ruled Against It

Bobov 45, the Bobov hasidic splinter group that lost a ten-year beit din fight for control of the Bobov name and movement 10 days ago, is now urging haredim to boycott stores and food manufacturers which have the kosher supervision of Rabbi Yechiel Babad of Tartikov, one of the beit din judges who voted against them, and are accusing him of taking bribes from the winning Bobov faction, Bobov 48.

Good point, jancsibacsi. They are a lot like Arab Muslims, after whom they partly model themselves. If they are not fighting "the outsider", they entertain themselves fighting each other.

Understanding that there are some very important issues here (e.g. arbitration of beit din, etc), like many, I am fully fed up with modern hassidut..

- I wonder when hassidut transformed from a populist movement to an elitist one.

- The unyielding obsession in the frum world with what "type" of person you are (as opposed to ones actual character and accomplishments)

The flier is somewhat disingenuous in that it explains it is not seeking a cherem or boycott, but just questioning whether the hecsher is 'mehudar'.

Bobov-45's claim are somewhat similar to the claim that made by King Edward III of England (d. 1360) to the Kingdom of France which led to the Hundred Year War.

King Edward the III of England, provoked by French attacks on lands he owns in France, decides upon a desperate gamble. He declares himself King of France, arguing that he can legally claim the French throne through line of descent via his mother, Isabella of France. In the French Salic law, possession and property can only be inherited through the paternal line. This means that only males descended from the sons on the king's side of the family can inherit the throne, land, or titles. However, under English law, possession and property can also descend to male children through the maternal bloodline. This means that males descended from the king's sons OR male children descended from the king's daughters have a claim to the throne. I don't see this as much different as my refusal to buy Meal Mart products or when the Ramah camps (and many I the Conservative institutions) would not allow Rubashkin products in. In both cases, the kashrut of the items were not questioned - the ethics and politics of the certifying agency was/is.

I understand those who see this as silly - but it is as a legitimate (legal and non-violent) form of protest that exists, and it is often quite effective. (Bus boycott in the south.......)

Could someone tell me where the word 'Bobov' appears on any of these fliers. I have not heard of anything of this in 45.I think that before you smear a whole community you need to show that they are the sources of it.

I also heard that Babad has made a name for himself, so I am not surprised about this.
