The main suspect in the kidnapping and gruesome murder of 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khbeir told startled reporters Sunday that he is the messiah.
Wearing an Izod pullover with his tzitzit (ritual fringes) dangling against his legs and flanked by police, Yosef Chaim Ben-David he made his way to a Jerusalem District courtroom to hear the indictment against him read out by Jerusalem District Court Judge Yaakov Tzaban.
Before he entered the closed courtroom, Ben-David was asked by reporters if he felt any remorse for kidnapping Abu Khdeir and burning him alive.
According to Yeshiva World, the 30-year-old Ben-David replied, “I am the messiah.”
People close to Ben-David – who ran a successful eyeglasses shop in the haredi Geula neighborhood of Jerusalem until his arrest – say Ben-David will plead temporary insanity.
Abu Khbeir’s family, many other Arabs and a significant number of Jews worry that Ben-David, who has a history of mental illness, will not be punished for the crimes he committed.
Also having their indictments read out Sunday were Ben-David’s two helpers in crime, both 16-year-old minors, one of them a haredi yeshiva student.
The three have already confessed to kidnapping Abu Khdeir from East Jerusalem in the early morning of July 2 and burning him alive him shortly afterward in the Jerusalem Forest west of the city.
Abu Khdeir was chosen by Ben-David and his helpers because he looked far younger than 16 and appeared vulnerable.
Wow that's origional. Maybe he should dye his hair orange or put a nazi symbol on his forehead..

Temporary insanity?
Temporary?

At least he has a nice head of hair. The Lubavitcher rebbe was (is) bald. Mashiach has to have a lot of hair, like Eliahu haNavi.

"Temporary"? But it lasted long enough to search for other potential victims, try and fail, before he found his quarry. It wasn't a spur of the moment thing.
"Insanity"? Are "insane" people able to formulate an explicit political goal, make a concrete plan, assemble the necessary implements, recruit collaborators, attempt a failed kidnapping, try again and succeed? Are insane people - however odious their intentions - actually more effective and persistent than the rest of us?

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy, now go away

Temporary insanity? Does he think everyone else was born yesterday?

What the hell was he doing out on the streets then? Surely he should have been locked away? And you know what? I don't give a f--k whether he was insane or not; for what he did, he must be put to death.

Phony as a 3 shekel note.

Michael-Meir - right on. I hope the prosecutors can show that he had to have been a lot more sane than most of us to see this through and carry his plan out to completion! For goodness sakes, how many of us have projects we never get around to with the planning, precision, forethought and organization that this "insane" man had to employ in order to do this kidnapping and murder!
Too bad Israel doesn't have the death penalty, as this man is a good example of someone who deserves it.

One "Messiah" was crucified and one converted to Islam under the sword. What's with this one?

"Nu Chabibi? Just say you're the Mashiach and you'll get a lower sentence with an insanity plea."
With one brutal murder, this schmuck razed Israel's moral high ground and lowered us to the level of the Arabs.

It could be " drug induced insanity"' as was the case with the race hate mass murderer in Norway.
