An Arab bus driver was attacked in Jerusalem Thursday and the next day, a fight broke out between Jews in the city after one of them said some Arabs are innocent. He was then hit by a bottle and hospitalized, Ha’aretz reported.

Right-wing activists and teens reportedly continue to roam Jerusalem’s city center in gangs shouting “Death to the Arabs” and looking for Arabs to assault.

Police have allegedly done little to stop this – even though even without assaulting anyone, yelling “death to Arabs” and roaming in a gang are both illegal.

Jerusalem-based left-wing organizations sent out teams that walk the streets and try to protect Palestinians from being assaulted by the right wing mobs.

Avner Pinchuk, and attorney with the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, wrote to Israel’s Attorney General, Yehuda Weinstein, demanding that Weinstein order police to enforce the law and reign in these right wing street thugs.

“We find it difficult to imagine a situation in which a group of Arab ruffians roamed a city in which Jews live and work, shouting ‘Death to the Jews,’ and the police offers them an escort as long as they don’t physically attack Jews. The different behavior in the case of Arab rioters [who have been forcibly stopped by police] gives the impression of police patronage, and for that reason it must be prevented,” Pinchuk reportedly wrote.

Meanwhile, for the second time in several days, a memorial monument for Mohammed Abu Khdeir, the 16-year-old East Jerusalem boy kidnapped and burned alive, allegedly by right wing extremists who are haredi or ex-haredi, has been destroyed by vandals, Ha’aretz reported.

The monument is built at the site in the Jerusalem Forest where Abu Khdeir’s charred body was found on July 2, the day he was kidnapped from East Jerusalem.

It was built last week on Tuesday by several dozen people who spontaneously organized the memorial, which is built from rocks gathered nearby and flower garlands. They also held a memorial service at the site.

The memorial vandalized shortly afterward, on the same day it was built.

“Somebody used no small amount of strength to destroy it,” Yoav Laff, a Beit Zayit resident and one of the people who built the monument, told Ha’aretz.

On Thursday, members of the Hoar HaOved VeHalomed and Dror Israel youth movements rebuilt the memorial monument and held a short memorial service.

On Friday, the monument was found vandalized again.
