Actually, if you really want to be historical, a better parallel would be the "Bonfires of the Vanities" held by Savonarola in Renaissance Italy. There, like here, the burnings were about renouncing materialism and modernity in the name of religion. This is not really parallel to Nazi book burnings (though I understand Godwin's law is compounded when things are thrown into a fire...).

Someone already identified the fact that the intention or reasoning behind this stated "korbon" makes it pigul and unacceptable for an offering - the Master of the Universe wants pleasant offerings. An alleged rabbi should understand this to the core. I do not understand the "learned" people of the Children of Israel making statements that go against basic principles of Torah. Simple, basic principles. Speeches after statements after speeches include basic mis-statements of Torah. For me, it invalidates any trust in the espousal of Torah.
