Rabbi Boruch Lebovits Pleads Guilty
Rabbi Boruch Lebovits pleaded guilty today to a child sex abuse related charge but got a sweetheart plea deal and sentence.
Above: Rabbi Boruch Lebovits
Rabbi Boruch Lebovits pleaded guilty today to a child sex abuse related charge but got a sweetheart plea deal and sentence – one year in city jail, not state prison.
Lebovits faced possible decades in jail if convicted on the original charges. (In 2010, Lebovits was convicted on those charges and sentenced to 10 2/3 to 32 years in state prison. That conviction was later overturned on a technicality that in no way impacted the evidence against him, which remained exceedingly strong.)
Chalk another bad decision up to Brooklyn's new DA, Ken Thompson.
Update 5:51 pm CDT – The details of how the sweetheart plea deal happened.
Wow. WTF !!!
This is insane.
How the F did this happen ???
Someone please start an email protest / petition.
This is a mockery of the justice system.
Disgrace

This is beyond absurd. The appeals court specifically stated that the evidence presented at trial supported a conviction, but tossed it out because the cops had not turned over notes of an interview with the victim concerning a rabbi who tried to bribe the victim into dropping the case. What one has to do with the other I have no idea. THERE WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT A CONVICTION!!!
So now we go from 10+ years to 1 year (probably 6 months) so he can get back out and do it again? WOW!! Way to go Mr. T., yes, you're really showing us why Hynes needed to go.

Wait - that would mean that eight felony sexual abuse counts were reduced to a single misdemeanor. Is this true? Or is this a 'related' matter?

Hashem loves him!!! He suffered more than enough!

@BP
Hashem love everybody!! However, in court today this lowlife the judge asked about 8 separate incidents where Lebovits performed oral sex on a 14 year old boy and Lebovits said yes, he did it each time the judge asked. He's suffered enough? Admitting to violating a 14 year old boy numerous times? He can't suffer enough, not ion this world or the next world.
Just curious, would you trust this piece of garbage to be alone with your 14 year old son for any length of time?

molest a child and destroy countless children 2 years
thank you da thompson and arthur adailia for showing us that justice is very far away for victims of sex abuse
thompson if leibowitz molested your child what would the sentence be

The commenters BH & BP are most likely the same. BML is probably BH & BP. He was doing unauthorized MBP , but took some time off to post with his left hand.
It is a disgrace. The punishment does not fit the crime. Don't say that the other guy Weberman deserved 50, but this guy should have had 5 to 10 for appearance sake.
I guess the DA felt the case was stinking up his office and wanted to get it out the door as fast as possible and move on.

To all of the self haters here; In our community you don't have to put someone away for 32 years in order to pay for their crimes. The shame and rejection a person and their families suffer is most of the times much worse that the whole sentence and YES he has suffered enough.

BP--So the shame is enough of a punishment you say what about the lifes he destroyed?.

Howsabout you let him move in with you, your children and grandchildren (if any)? Somehow I doubt your so-called compassion would extend that far.

HE suffered? This admitted sexual pedophile/predator suffered? Don't tell me a young teenage boy pushed this "rabbi" into performing oral sex? The man belongs in prison for decades. That would be justice. I find it offensive to even use the title of rabbi when referring to him. He's a disgrace.

You have conveniently avoided answering my question: would you trust this piece of garbage to be alone with your 14 year old son for any length of time?
What about the suffering of the victim? That suffering is going to last a life time!
