Video: Quebec To Stop Funding Illegal Hasidic Schools That Do Not Teach Required Secular Subjects
Quebec’s newly elected Education Minister, Yves Bolduc, announced that he will stop government subsidies of illegal Hasidic Jewish schools. “We have to close them, they are illegal, it’s as simple as that. What is important is that the students have to have a very good education, and they must acquire the knowledge that is necessary.”

fair enough!

Well done Quebec. Next, follow through, ensure that those schools are closed and ultra-orthodox students have a useful education in the core curriculum instead of filling their heads with stuff that will only allow them to become the slaves of the rabbis.

Oui !! Merci Monsieur Bolduc ! Finally a politician willing to stand up for children. Now watch the rabbis throw a tantrum, and cry anti-Semitism!
It must be considered a serious crime to keep one’s children out of the public school system (or a private system that provides an equivalent education – which hassidic schools most certainly do not). And these schools must not compromise by separating boys and girls into different classrooms. The children must be exposed to how life will be for them in the modern workplace. Men and women working together.

2011/A Quebec judge ordered a family in Notre-Dame-des-Bois to send its children to compulsory government operated day-care and public school. The intention is to provide needed socialization and education that, according to the judge, were being deprived by the parents.
RE: homeschools
AK: As usual: figures....(comment) neo-liberals demand absolute sexual and substance freedom but are anti-freedom in every other respect, and will use the state to force people into their prescriptive molds.

Ij:
Little children attending coed classes is hardly radical stuff except to a sex-obsessed Haredi man. Society has to look after its own interests which include making sure that its future voters have some understanding of the world outside their shtetl gates.

Frankly, I don't care if the children are integrated, co-educational or for that matter sitting out in the parking lot with the maintenance staff; my point is that the Ultra-orthodox consider the core curriculum to be goyish. In sending their children to schools that teach nothing but religious dogma, or in other words witchcraft, voodoo, fairy stories and outright garbage, they are hamstringing their children for later life. One needs literacy and numeracy in order to be able to earn a living. The Hasidim will scream anti-semitism, I will scream back ignorance and child abuse. Equipping one's children to function in society is a parent's duty. Telling them useless fairy stories and quizzing them on arbitrary rules set by the flying spaghetti monster sitting invisibly in the sky is child abuse.

Funny how we judge these people without knowing anything about them, yet we shy no expense when it comes to protect our own questionable values and culture in this province.
I have never seen an unhappy Hasidic man, woman or child.
Maybe they know something the rest of us don't.

Never thought I'd see anything courageous coming from the French but I do like being pleasantly surprised.
